Mr Eric Lim the Chair of the UK Thoracic Surgery Research Collaborative, Councillor of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, member of the Steering Committee of the British Thoracic Oncology Group, an Associate Editor of Thorax and the Deputy Statistics Editor for the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.

He is the head of the Biomedical Research Unit Cancer Consortia and leads a team of translational researchers focusing on blood based cancer diagnosis and predictive testing. Hius clinical research is focused on efficacy of thoracic surgical interventions and he is the Chief Investigator leading UK wide multicentre trials of surgery for mesothelioma (MARS 2) and VATS lobectomy (VIOLET). His research group have undertaken systematic reviews of thoracic surgical intervention including national and international aggregate and individual patient data meta-analysis. The clinical application of his research has led to recommendations in UK (BTS) and European (ESMO) guidelines advising clinicians on the clinical care for both early and advanced lung cancer.
